The major areas of study include painting and related media, printmaking, three-dimensional studies, photography, digital and lens-based media, graphic communication, and textile design. Candidates have the flexibility to respond to any component using any of the listed media. All candidates undertake two components: Component 1, which involves a broad-based assignment, and either Component 2, Component 3, or Component 4. Option A includes Component 1 and Component 2, Option B includes Component 1 and Component 3, and Option C includes Component 1 and Component 4. Each component has a preparatory period during which candidates produce supporting studies, followed by an examination or assessment. Components are externally assessed or moderated, except for Component 4, which is internally assessed by teachers and externally moderated.
